Today I went to Barnes and Nobles with my husband and noticed the current issue of Somerset Studio magazine. I had submitted a piece of artwork last spring for this September/October issue, figured I wasn’t chosen, and so opened it to see who was. There on the “Letters to the Editor” page, I saw a photo of my artwork. I gasped, thinking… What is my painting of Elya’s warrior princess mask doing in here?
Then it hit me. They didn’t choose my art but featured the front of the package I designed to mail the art.
I was flabbergasted. I showed my husband and then giggled. What a wonderful surprise!
This mask was a creative collaboration between my daughters and I. This video shows how we created it and how one mask evolved into several different kinds of creative projects.
Here’s a photo of my daughter, Elya wearing the mask she made…
and the acrylic painting that I photographed to decorate the box with.
Making it into Somerset Studio Magazine has inspired me to take more risks and submit more artwork to art magazines.
Amazing art!
