This lesson will feature how to decorate a masquerade mask with mixed media.
I demonstrated how to sculpt a mask out of clay in How to Make a Masquerade Mask Part I.
Here are the supplies you will need:
- A clay mask, plaster cloth mask, or paper mache mask
- Golden’s Regular Gel (Matte)
- An assortment of scrapbook paper
- Acrylic paints
- Embellishments as desired, such as feathers
Step 1: Paint the mask with a base color.
Step 2: Sponge multiple colors onto the mask.
Step 3: Select scrapbook paper for the mask.
Step 4: Brush Golden’s Regular Gel onto the mask and then place paper onto mask.
Step 5: Rub out air bubbles with your fingers
Step 6: Cover the paper with another layer of gel medium. Continue adding additional paper to the mask.
Step 7: Sponge the edges of the mask with a contrasting color.
Step 8: After the mask dries, glue feathers onto the backside of the mask.
Lastly, enjoy displaying or wearing your mask.
