Some of the greatest blessings one can receive in a lifetime are moments of clarity.
Those serendipitous seconds when heaven shines a beam of light in the form of illuminated understanding—a perspective that cuts through the quagmire of confusion, ambition, and ego.
All of a sudden, truth slices through the script we’ve been reciting, perseverating, that which takes us around and around in circles of the soul. The moment of clarity comes and the script rips and falls to the floor.
All of a sudden, truth comes and we see more clearly who God is, who He intends us to be, what He wants us to do. We find ourselves desiring those pursuits that would bring glory to His name.
Moments of clarity can come as a thought seemingly from out of nowhere or arrive in a vision of the mind or visit in our dreams.
Moments of clarity flutter from the mouth of an insightful friend—like a seagull in flight, dive bombing a crab on the beach.
Moments of clarity pierce the heart when we read scripture quickened by the Spirit:
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12
Sometimes moments of clarity cause us to grieve wasted time and energy, as we watch the flame of God’s love burn away the dross of unworthy pursuits.
Sometimes moments of clarity cause consternation. We aren’t prepared for those spiritual encounters when God slices through our humanness to implant a promise into the rocky crags of our hardened heart. Yet if we will embrace the experience, He will grow something magnificent.
Something lowly and humble, something missed by eyes not seeking moments of clarity.
